THE CHALLENGE
.giff Festival of New Cinema needed a digital space as bold and experimental as its vision. As a platform dedicated to pushing the boundaries of film and visual storytelling, the festival required a website that could serve as both an interactive hub and a dynamic showcase. It had to introduce the festival to new audiences, support real-time engagement through voting and live streams, and act as a central resource for participants and viewers. More than just an event page, the site needed to embody .giff’s spirit—breaking boundaries, sparking conversation, and redefining how cinema is experienced online.
THE GOAL
The goal was to create a website that reflects .giff Festival’s experimental and boundary-pushing approach to cinema. It needed to attract new audiences, provide a seamless experience for festival attendees, and support interactive features like live streaming and voting. Beyond functionality, the site had to embody the festival’s vision—challenging conventions, showcasing innovative storytelling, and fostering engagement with contemporary film culture.

The process
Visually Striking: Parallax Animations and Intentional Graphics
The visual style stays consistent across the site—playful, layered, and bold. Parallax effects add depth, while bubble graphics and radial gradients bring energy to each page. Glass-like elements highlight key sections like the logo and brand showcases. It all comes together to create a site that’s not just cohesive, but visually striking from top to bottom.
Virtual.giff: Digital Experience
To extend the festival experience online, .giff launched virtual.giff—a digital space with three parts. The Blackbox lets audiences stream selected films, bringing the cinema experience home. The Gallery showcases digital and tech-driven art pieces in an interactive space. And The Streaming Room hosts live talks, performances, and virtual hangouts, creating a sense of community no matter where you are.
Film: In Short, A Film Competition and GSSFL
The film competition highlights bold, original entries that push the boundaries of storytelling. It invites audiences to explore new perspectives through curated selections. The film showcase, on the other hand, presents standout works chosen for their craft and experimentation. Both sections reflect the festival’s commitment to cinema that challenges and inspires.
